Nina’s Animal Tips for the Holidays
I had the privilege of being on an Animal Communication safari with world renowned Anna Breytenbach in the Tswalu Kalahari Reserve South Africa. At one point I came face to face with an African Eland, a large antelope with a long face, short neck, dark mane, and impressive ringed horns rising vertically as they curve slightly backward. As I quickly ran back to my Motse for my water bottle, he was running to get back to the desert. I quickly came to an abrupt halt when I almost ran directly into him. We both paused and looked at each other and shared several moments of presence and gratitude. It was magical! Surreal! After honoring and thanking him, we both went on our ways. He has recently shown up in my meditations as a spirit animal guide.
As I recalled this experience, I realized how animals teach us to be very present. It occurred to me that as we embark upon this holiday season with its chaos and “hurry up” pressures, we need to embrace the moments by pausing and being present—not only for ourselves and the other humans we love, but as an ongoing gift to our animals. Slow down, pause frequently to give some extra time and attention to the animals in your life.
By taking care of yourself physically and emotionally, your animal friends will benefit, and in return you will benefit from their love and appreciation. So here are a few tips to keep yourself and your animal companion calm and happier during this time:
Breathe
Get Outside In To Nature – It clears your energy and raises your vibration
Take in the 5 Senses:
Smell the crispness in the air
Taste the salt water of the ocean
Feel the wind on your face
Hear the birds chirping
Watch the sun set
Sit in stillness even if just for a few minutes – it helps quiet your mind
Periodically take 3-5 slow, deep breaths
Exercise to move and get the blood flowing
Spend extra time with your animal – rub your dog’s belly, stroke your cat
Sing, dance, laugh – be silly
Watch a funny movie
Cook/Bake – Enjoy the preparation and aromas
Use a few drops of your favorite essential oils in a diffuser – Rose, Joy (Young Living), Frankincense, Rescue Remedy, Peace & Calming (Young Living), Breathe (DoTerra) – dilute when using with animals
Hope these tips were helpful as you savor the moments with your family, friends, and animal companions. They will all be grateful! Wishing you a very Merry Happy Holiday!
